Building upon Governor Andrew Cuomo’s leadership shaping New York
State into the epicenter of nanotechnology-based research and
development, CNSE will transform into the host venue for the 2013
NanOlympics to illustrate how nanotechnology is improving the sports
equipment that will be used in the upcoming 2014 winter games.
Learn about the role nanotechnology will play at the 2014 Winter Olympics during a presentation by Dr. Sara Brenner, CNSE Assistant Vice President for NanoHealth Initiatives and Assistant
Professor of Nanobioscience, and take part in a number of fun,
family-oriented winter sports activities using nano-enabled equipment.
chance to test hockey shot accuracy and speed in the sport that uses
nanotechnology to make the sticks more impact resistant; try their hand
at curling, in which the microscopic roughness of the curling stone
causes it to curl; and learn how nanotechnology makes skis more durable
and easier to control as they attempt an alpine racing simulation.
Attendees can also test their biathlon skills at a laser shooting
simulation or challenge their friends to a number of virtual winter
games on the Wii, Xbox, and Playstation game consoles. Pre-register for this event
