nanoelectronics, clean energy and life sciences research, development and manufacturing

Albany, New York - Nanolab Technologies Incorporated (Nanolab), a leading analytical services company headquartered in California's Silicon Valley, has selected the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany for a significant expansion and investment to establish a state-of-the-art analytical services laboratory that will serve a growing customer base in the nanoelectronics, solar energy and life sciences industries.

Nanolab will invest more than $1.5 million in the first phase of a multi-year expansion at CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex. The company will initially target extreme high-resolution electron microscopy and failure analysis services to facilitate cost-effective failure and materials analysis capabilities for emerging technology companies, while also serving the needs of global corporate partners located at CNSE.

Future investment by Nanolab at CNSE is estimated at over $5 million, including the creation of a new Center of Excellence for Surface Analysis that will complement the company's established failure and materials analysis businesses.

John P. Traub, President and CEO of Nanolab, said, "Through this partnership with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, the recognized global leader in nanotechnology education and innovation, Nanolab Technologies Incorporated has an unparalleled opportunity to further build our technical expertise and to grow our customer base. Our first phase investment at CNSE illustrates our commitment to serving the global needs of our customers and providing capital intense capabilities to emerging companies that preserve critical capital resources for their research, development and commercialization of technologies and products. As a company committed to delivering value to its customers while maintaining the highest standards of quality and continuous improvement for all lab operations, we see no better place to meet and exceed those goals than at CNSE."

Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, Senior Vice President and CEO of CNSE, said, "It is a pleasure to welcome Nanolab Technologies to the UAlbany NanoCollege, where it joins our ever-expanding roster of leading corporate partners and further builds the world-class capabilities of CNSE as the global hub for innovative nanotechnology research, development and commercialization. The decision by Nanolab to expand at CNSE provides another illustration of the strength and success of New York's nanotechnology sector, which is driving the growth of high-tech jobs, companies and investment across the state."

Nanolab plans to work closely with CNSE faculty and staff to identify CNSE students to be hired through paid internships to support the company's own scientists and engineers based at CNSE. Work to fit up Nanolab's facility at CNSE will begin in mid-August, and the laboratory is expected to be operational this fall.
