ALBANY, NY- Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti P.C., an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, New York, is pleased to announce the first publication of the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index (CEPGI) by the firm's Cleantech Group. The CEPGI tracks the granting of patents in the Clean Energy sector and monitors important technological breakthroughs in this field. Jeff Rothenberg, the firm's managing partner stated, "we are pleased to announce the first edition of the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index which we hope will allow the Clean Energy industry to better track innovation in this vital sector."
The Clean Energy Patent Growth Index (CEPGI) provides an indication of the trend of innovative activity in the Clean Energy sector in the last five years in the U.S., along with presenting quarterly results. The value for the CEPGI for the third quarter of 2007 is 211, which is down slightly from 228 in the second quarter. From 2002 through the second quarter of 2007, the number of clean energy patents has ranged from a low of 105 in the first quarter of 2002 to a high in early 2005 of 254.
Fuel cell innovations provide the largest absolute number of clean energy patents to the CEPGI. Solar and wind energy along with hybrid/electric vehicles provide another significant part of the CEPGI with remaining components contributing to a lesser degree. Wind energy is on an upward trend for the period since 2002 while solar energy innovation appears to be heading in the opposite direction.
Further information regarding the CEPGI is available at http://www.cleanenergypatentgrowthindex.com/. Future publications of the CEPGI will occur quarterly and will also include the top companies receiving Clean Energy patents and the top geographic areas for Clean Energy patents.
