Tonawanda, NY— ENrG Inc., a western New York technology firm, announces the opening of a new fabrication facility for the development of ceramic components used in the production of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) systems. This new facility, located at 2765 Kenmore Avenue, in Tonawanda, NY, will have a “Class 10,000” cleanroom for fuel cell patterning and membrane coating.
State Senator Mary Lou Rath and Assemblyman Robin Schimminger will be the speakers at the Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 13, 2006; at 12:00 pm. Tonawanda Town Supervisor Ronald Moline will do the ribbon cutting honors. These local political leaders support ENrG’s efforts in the “clean energy” initiative.
ENrG Inc. has invested $1.1M in the 4,300 ft2 facility, an expansion beyond ENrG’s existing headquarters and ceramic membrane manufacturing located in an Economic Development and Renewal Zone in Buffalo, NY. This planned growth is a result of ENrG’s participation in NIST ATP and NYSERDA funded programs related to the development of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells.
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce electrical energy and heat, with water as a by-product. SOFCs are used as an alternative energy source, including compact auxiliary power units (APUs). Applications in transportation, aviation, and manufacturing represent several future opportunities. Pilot programs in progress include generating electricity for homes and apartments.
ENrG Inc. specializes in the development and manufacture of ceramic membrane and coating technologies for clean energy applications such as SOFCs and gas separation. ENrG was founded in 2003 by six co-workers when their former employer closed its Buffalo operation. ENrG currently employs 14 people.
