TIME: 2:00 PM
- 3:00 PM
Speakers will present to the audience an overview of their current programs and what lies ahead for the future of the solar cell industry. Following the presentations, the speakers will engage in a panel discussion to answer attendees' questions and also identify and discuss obstacles and opportunities in the solar cell industry. The panel portion of the forum will be moderated by Allen Goodman, President of ECG Consulting.
The forum will cover the overall investments and market opportunities of solar cells, and how the changing economic situation of the US will affect the solar cell industry worldwide. Worldwide investments in the production of photovoltaic (PV) cells will rise to the same level as those for semiconductor manufacturing by 2010, due to booming demand for solar energy. Global production of PV cells is expected to rise to as much as 12 Gigawatts (GW) by 2010. The market for PV cells is estimated to grow by 40 percent annually until 2010, and 20 percent beyond. While the high price of oil and surging energy prices fuel demand for solar power in the short term, demand will be no less in the years to come. With cost reductions in solar many regions throughout the world will soon reach grid parity - a point at which PV electricity costs the same or less than power derived from the electrical grid.
