A Quick Guide to Badge Access:

1. A badge form needs to be submitted to ACCESSCONTROL@sunycnse.com from an Authorized Sponsor only.
      • The name you use for your badge request must be the same name used to sign up for training and that's on your license/identification card
      • Ensure that your email is included on the badge form and that it is accurate.
    2. Safety Orientation needs to be completed before a general access badge will be created (email CNSEEHS@sunycnse.com to register for safety orientation. Details on when safety orientation is offered can be found below .)
      • Additionally, General Safety will need to be completed before you can be given cleanroom access (This is an online class, see instructions in table below)
      • Additionally, Advanced Safety will need to be completed before you can receive lab access, handle chemicals or work on cleanroom tools (see instructions in table below for how to complete Advanced Safety)
     3. Once you receive an email from ACCESSCONTROL@sunycnse.com, notifying you that your badge is ready to be picked up, please come to the security desk in the NFE rotunda between the hours of 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM Monday through Friday to have your photo taken and pick up your badge

    4. If you have not received an email about your badge in 7 business days, please go to your SPONSOR to inquire about the badge

    Safety Orientation

    • Employees new to the facility and/or working in the cleanroom are required to attend in-class New Hire Safety Orientation training. This orientation is conducted every Monday at 2pm in CESTM CR-1. You must pre-register to attend since seating is limited
      • To pre-register: Send your name, e-mail address, company, job title and supervisors name to CNSEEHS@albany.edu.
    • The online Safety Orientation training does not replace the normally scheduled Monday in-class training, but is made available only to those who require safety orientation and meet all of the following criteria:
      • You will be working onsite for a total of 6 days or less.
      • Due to scheduling conflicts and time restraints, you cannot attend the Monday class.
      • You have received prior Hazard Communication Training from your employer.
      • You are not a full time employee assigned to the CNSE site.
    • If you do not meet all of the above requirements, you must attend the next in-class session.
    • If you meet the criteria, you may take the online safety orientation training by completing the following steps:
      • Review the following training presentations:
        1. CNSE Safety Orientation Presentation and complete the quiz in the Safety Orientation Handbook and forward to EHS per the instructions in the handbook. To view the Safety Orientation Presentation please click here.

        3. CNSE Security Awareness Presentation – click here
      • Once you have completed the presentations, download the Safety Orientation Handbook and complete the quiz displayed on pages 13-15.
      • Detach or scan the quiz pages, ask your Manager/Contact to approve your submission and drop off the completed quiz to Security in the NFE Rotunda or email to CNSEEHS@sunycnse.com

    General Safety Training - (formerly Part I of Advanced Safety Training)

    • Who should complete: All new or existing employees, students, researchers and/or tenant employees who work in the CNSE cleanroom or laboratories
    • Retraining Frequency: Annual
    • Topics Covered: Emergency Procedures and Reporting, Signs and Warnings, Hazard Analysis, Radiation Safety, Cryogenic handling, Electrical Safety Awareness, Lockout Tag-out Awareness, Confined Space Entry Awareness.
    • Delivery Method: Online- OTIS Training You must be assigned this course by CNSE EHS. Please email CNSEEHS@sunycnse.com with your name, work email, supervisor, company and state that you want to be registered for General Safety on OTIS. Your login ID is your work email and your password can be obtained from the main screen once you have an account. You will receive an email back from CNSE EHS once you've registered and when you login the course will show up on your main screen.

    Advanced Safety Training - (formerly Part II of Advanced Safety Training)

    • Who should attend: All new or existing employees, students, researchers and/or tenant employees who work, service or maintain tools or equipment and those that transport, ship, use or handle chemicals, gases or generate hazardous waste at CNSE and/or those that need access to HPM areas or CNSE laboratories
    • Retraining Frequency: Annual
    • Topics Covered: Chemical Hazards, Chemical Types, Compressed Gas Cylinder Handling, Personal Protective Equipment, Waste Management, Chemical Spill Clean-up
    • Delivery Method: Classroom presentation
    • Registration: You must pre-register for this class since seating is limited. Send your name, e-mail address, company, job title and supervisors name to CNSEEHS@sunycnse.com.
    • Arrive 20 minutes prior to the start time to facilitate the sign in process and bring a pen. If you do not plan to attend after you have registered, please notify CNSEEHS@sunycnse.com to allow others to attend.
