WKTV: SUNY board OK's merger between SUNY IT and CNSE
The SUNY Board of Trustees on Wednesday unanimously approved the merger of SUNYIT in Marcy and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, or, CNSE, in Albany.
"It's the game-changing moment for the region," says Steve DiMeo of the Mohawk Valley EDGE.
DiMeo has traveled and continues to travel the globe, touting the Marcy site to prospective tenants looking for a place to locate a computer chip manufacturing plant. Today's merger will only help to that end.
"So I think from an economic development standpoint, it shows the industry that there's going to be a significant research presence and advanced degrees, masters and PhD-level programs. All of those things would be very important to companies that are using facilities in NanoUtica, as well as companies that would be interested in the Marcy Nanocenter site," says DiMeo.
SUNYIT students say it's an exciting time and a move that will put the new, combined institution on a national stage.
