Teams & 2012 Winners

Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students from accredited New York State colleges and universities are encouraged to submit business plans around a student-born innovation that is designed for a currently unmet need. Teams are invited each year to pitch their venture to an external panel of investor judges at the New York State Business Plan Competition and compete for over $150,000 in prizes.

Teams should consist of one to a maximum of six members (excluding the advisor). Students from different academic areas are encouraged to work together to create the strongest team possible. One faculty member is required to be listed as an advisor for the team; offering guidance, support, and technical expertise.

The competition encourages students to fully engage in their research and allows them to gain valuable experience through presenting their business plan to potential investors and industry executives. The topical areas of submission include:

  • Clean Energy / Sustainability

  • Information Technology / Software
  • Nanotechnology / High Tech
