Position Title: Utica - Locksmith
Employment is with the SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Description of Duties:

The majority of the work for this individual shall be as the campus Locksmith. This person shall complete routine Work Orders related to lock and key repairs and preparation. Special assignments will include re-distribution of cores in residence halls and pinning of cores for new buildings or partial building renovations. The Locksmith will coordinate work with University Police. Good recordkeeping is essential.

The Locksmith shall perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have high integrity, be trustworthy and able to handle sensitive security issues. The candidate shall be able to read, interpret, and construct basic functional (hierarchical) diagrams as well as reading architectural construction drawings. A positive and cooperative work attitude is necessary for interfacing with students, faculty, staff, vendors and other individuals encountered in this important position.

The locksmith must be thoroughly knowledgeable of a variety of mortise and cylindrical lock systems as well as electric strike operations. The person shall work cooperatively with other Facilities staff for powered door operations and with University Police on remote access systems.

Persons applying for this position should have 3 or more years of experience as a locksmith at an institution or facility of similar size and shall have thorough experience with pinning cores and cutting keys. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of all door hardware components besides locks and be able to make field adjustments and repairs. Background at an educational / residential facility is preferred. Formal training and/or certification in the locksmith trade is considered an advantage.

• Ability communicate clearly and to follow directions either written or verbal.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams related to door security systems.
• Must be able to keep sensitive security records confidential.
