Position Title: Albany - Kiernan Plaza - Facility HVAC Technician
Employment is with the Research Foundation for SUNY, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

Description of Duties:

The facility HVAC Technician job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: HVAC and mechanical operations and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, exhaust, and mechanical systems supporting building operations; preventive maintenance; lock-out tag-out protocol; inventory and facility operating system document control; monitoring and responding to all facility reporting alarms and controls; system balancing; operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, air handling units, etc.; understanding all related disciplines such as electrical (medium and low voltage electrical systems), fire alarm, security, building automation, waste and water treatment systems; general building repair; attention to customer satisfaction and support; must conduct work in an independent manner. There may be an opportunity for overtime hours in this position. This is position’s primary location will be at Kiernan Plaza but could be at any other site location as determined needed. Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification AND a technical trade degree with 5 years of related mechanical work experience OR a minimum of 8 years Mechanical/HVAC experience in a facility operations or construction environment. Must have ability to provide off shift coverage; good communication skills and proficient use of the Microsoft Office and computer maintenance management programs are also required. Possess excellent people skills/customer focus and a commitment to team work, an ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments; demonstrate initiative and be adaptable to change.

Must have ability to stand for the majority of the shift and complete repetitive motions; including reaching, bending, crawling, fingering, and grasping. This position requires the ability to lift and push/pull 50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the shift and frequent climbing (i.e. ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, etc.). This position requires some work in adverse weather conditions, confined spaces, and exposure to hazards (i.e. proximity to moving mechanical parts, heat, cold, noise and vibration exposure). Employee must have the ability to wear a respirator as assigned and requires participation in CNSE’s hearing conservation program (annual audiogram).

Candidates must address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations. This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with data center infrastructure.
